An increased police presence was in effect in Los Alamitos Monday evening amid the protests and destruction happening in nearby cities and throughout Southern California.
“We are not taking these events lightly,” said City Manager Chet Simmons. “We have stepped up our patrols, increased our intelligence gathering and deployed additional public safety assets to ensure that we are prepared for any potential events in our town.”
Simmons said the destruction of property has been “truly tragic and disturbing (and) … it is easy to understand the growing sense of anxiety and apprehension that many of us may be feeling.”
The city and police department are “fully engaged and focused on ensuring the safety of our residents, our neighborhoods and our businesses,” he said.
He thanked residents for their outpouring of support over the last couple of days.
“I continue to marvel at the resiliency of this community and your commitment to your city,” Simmons said. “Like the pandemic, we will get through this together.”
