A suspect was arrested Friday in connection with a fatal shooting earlier this week in an Indio neighborhood, but another man remained on the lam.
Oscar Angel Bustos, 28, of Indio was taken into custody Friday morning and booked at the Indio jail on suspicion of murder, according to police spokesman Ben Guitron.
Another Indio resident, 30-year-old Robert Ruiz, is also being sought in the shooting that occurred in the 85-100 block of Armata Street on Wednesday.
The victim, who police said appeared to be in his 20s, has not yet been publicly identified, and no motive has been disclosed.
Someone called Indio police about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday to report hearing a gunshot after a disturbance in the neighborhood, Guitron said. Responding officers found the victim lying near the sidewalk, suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
Despite first responders’ efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Guitron said Friday that detectives named Bustos and Ruiz as suspects in the crime “through investigation,” but offered no additional details.
Ruiz is expected to make his initial court appearance on Tuesday at the Larson Justice Center in Indio.
The slaying is the fourth homicide reported in Indio this year.
Police are urging anyonewith information on Ruiz’s whereabouts to call Indio police at 760-391-4051. Anonymous tips can also be reported to Coachella Valley CrimeStoppers at 760-341-7867.
