An autopsy Thursday on a 22-month-old boy left in a car in Fullerton did not immediately reveal the cause of the toddler’s death.
Investigators are awaiting the results of laboratory tests on the child, said Carrie Braun of the Orange County Sheriff’s and Coroner’s Department.
Investigators did not immediately reveal the victim’s name.
Police were called at 3:34 p.m. Wednesday to the 400 block of West Wilshire Avenue on a report of a baby left in a car. Someone had taken the boy out of the vehicle by the time police arrived, and paramedics tried unsuccessfully to revive the child before pronouncing him dead at the scene, said Fullerton Police Department Sgt. Eric Bridges.
He said the baby’s relatives were on scene and cooperated with investigators.
Police are seeking to determine if the child was left in the car alone, Bridges said. The Orange County Coroner’s Office will also conduct an investigation and determine the cause of death, he said.
Fullerton experienced a high of 87 degrees Wednesday.
