A 17-year-old Huntington Park girl shot to death after a Hollywood street race was an innocent bystander caught in gunfire, according to broadcast reports.

The victim’s name has not been publicly released by the coroner’s office but relatives identified her as Alejandra “Ale” Estrada, according to CBS 2.

Police arrested 33-year-old Ramon Roque Monreal of El Paso, Texas, in connection with the shooting.

The girl was struck by gunfire just after midnight Sunday at Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue in an incident which was tied to a street race along surface roads, according to Officer Kevin Snare of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Operations Center.

An altercation broke out between two men at the race, prompting the gunfire, CBS2 reported.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Monreal was taken into custody by sheriff’s deputies around 3:45 a.m. Sunday in the area of 223rd and Figueroa streets.

Monreal was in possession of a firearm, the LAPD said. Sheriff’s deputies notified LAPD Hollywood homicide detectives, who later arrested him on suspicion of murder.

Monreal’s bail was set at $3 million dollars, according to jail records and the LAPD. Detectives were expected to present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office on Tuesday.
