A Los Angeles Police Department officer was shot in her right arm, possibly by another officer, while responding to a mental health call in Hollywood Wednesday, police said.
The officer responded to a call of a suicidal man, involving an approximately 33-year-old man with bipolar disorder, at about 2:10 p.m. at a residence in the 1100 block of North Wilton Place, near Santa Monica Boulevard, according to LAPD Officer Mike Chan. The man was allegedly armed with scissors.
Officers arrived and made contact with the man and a Rottweiler and “during the encounter an officer-involved shooting occurred,” police said.
The officer was shot and taken to a hospital, Chan said.
“It appears the officer was struck by `friendly fire’ but that has not been confirmed,” according to a tweet from the LAPD’s account.
The subject, who was armed with a pair of scissors, was taken into custody. The dog was injured and taken to a veterinarian for treatment, but the cause of the injury has not been determined.
