A 27-year-old man who allegedly planned a sexual tryst with someone he believed to be a 13-year-old girl he met online — who was in fact an undercover law enforcement officer — was behind bars Thursday.
Leonides Edgardo Guzman of Phelan was arrested by Riverside County District Attorney’s Office investigators Wednesday on suspicion of sending pornographic material to a minor, indecent exposure and contacting a child for the purpose of sex.
Guzman is being held on $200,000 bail at the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning.
According to the D.A.’s office, Guzmah was using a dating app when he contacted the undercover D.A.’s office investigator, who identified himself as a 13-year-old girl in the Beaumont area.
Guzman then sent several pictures of intimate body parts and asked to meet his new chat mate at Nicklaus Park in Beaumont, prosecutors allege. When he showed up, he was taken into custody without incident.
“Authorities believe there may be underage victims who have had contact with Guzman and are asking for the public’s help in identifying them,” according to an agency statement.
D.A. office Chief Investigator Joe DelGiudice credited the county’s Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement — SAFE — task force with ferreting out the suspect and taking him off the street.
“We will continue to actively pursue these predators in our communities,” DelGiudice said.
Anyone with information that could further the investigation was asked to contact the SAFE team at 866-723-3595 or via email at email@example.com.
