Murder and other charges are expected to be filed Wednesday against a 39-year-old San Bernardino man suspected of gunning down his wife and wounding his teenage son in Eastvale.
Rahman Leon Hunter was arrested Sunday and was being held without bail at the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning.
According to Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Steve Brosche, the attack happened about 1 a.m. Sunday at a residence in the 7200 block of Lazare Court, near Archibald Avenue.
Brosche alleged that, during an unspecified domestic dispute, Hunter pulled a gun and shot 37-year-old Chiana Hunter and their 15-year-old son.
Witnesses called 911, and deputies reached the location moments later, discovering the woman in grave condition. Efforts were made to resuscitate her, but she died at the scene, according to the sergeant.
The couple’s son was taken to Riverside Community Hospital and is expected to survive, authorities said.
Brosche alleged that Hunter fled in a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe, heading north to Hesperia, where he was apprehended without incident 10 hours later.
The suspect has no documented prior felony convictions in Riverside County. However, he has a misdemeanor shoplifting conviction in San Bernardino County, according to court records.
