A motorcyclist killed on the Pomona (60) Freeway in Jurupa Valley when his bike was struck from behind by a possible drunken driver was identified Monday as a 53-year-old Moreno Valley resident.
Eduardo Gutierrez was fatally injured about 3:40 a.m. Sunday on the westbound 60, just west of Country Village Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officer Juan Quintero said Gutierrez was on his Suzuki GSXR when a Nissan Sentra approached from behind in the same lane, traveling well over the 65 mph speed limit. The 31-year-old woman at the wheel of the Nissan allowed her vehicle to impact the rear of the Suzuki, flinging the rider onto the pavement, according to Quintero.
Gutierrez suffered massive blunt force trauma and died at the scene, he said.
The motorist, whose identity was not released and had not been arrested as of Monday afternoon, stopped her vehicle, along with other drivers, who called 911.
“Alcohol is a factor in this collision,” Quintero said, without disclosing further details.
