A 20-year-old Fullerton man pleaded guilty Tuesday and was immediately sentenced to four years in prison for driving his car into a group of people outside a party in Orange, striking one guest.
Richard Lee Walter Jr. pleaded guilty to three felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon other than a gun. As part of the plea deal counts of attempted murder and hit and run with permanent and serious injury were dismissed, according to court records.
Walter, who was at a party March 31, 2018, with the victims, was angered by some sort of “dispute over a female,” said Sgt. Phil McMullin of the Orange Police Department.
Walter drove his car into a group, seriously injuring one partygoer, and then fled the scene, McMullin said.
“At first it looked like a hit-and-run, but the investigation led us to believe he purposely targeted this person,” McMullin said when Walter was charged last year.
