A stolen vehicle suspect led the California Highway Patrol on a chase Tuesday evening from Anaheim to the South Los Angeles area, where he pulled over near a couple of people who appeared to be friends or relatives, then got on the ground and surrendered.

The Anaheim Police Department began pursuing the stolen vehicle, but the California Highway Patrol took over the chase about 6:45 p.m. on the northbound Santa Ana (5) Freeway, at Main Street, according to Anaheim Police Department Sgt. Shane Carringer and the CHP.

The suspect drove up to 100 mph on the westbound Artesia (91) Freeway, then onto the Harbor (110) Freeway, where he exited at El Segundo Boulevard.

He drove to Ainsworth Street, near West 120th Street and Vermont Avenue, where he pulled over near two people who appeared to be friends or relatives. Immediately upon exiting his vehicle, the suspect got onto the ground to be taken into custody shortly after 7 p.m.
