A 30-year-old man was fatally shot Wednesday during a confrontation on a Hemet street, and the whereabouts of the shooter were unknown.
The attack happened about 4:25 a.m. in the 200 block of North Elk Street, near Latham Avenue, according to Hemet police Lt. Nathan Miller, who said patrol officers were sent to investigate a shots-fired call in the area and located a man suffering from a grave leg wound.
The Hemet resident was taken to Hemet Valley Medical Center, where he died in the emergency room less than an hour later. His name was withheld pending family notification.
Miller said officers fanned out in an attempt to locate the suspect, without success.
A description of the perpetrator was not provided, and there was no word on a possible motive.
