A police officer escaped with just minor injuries when an SUV ran a red light in Fountain Valley Sunday and crashed into his patrol vehicle, authorities said.
The crash occurred at 3:02 a.m. in the area of Slater Avenue and Magnolia Street, while the officer was en route to assist another officer with a traffic stop, the Fountain Valley Police Department reported.
It was not immediately known if the driver of the white 2017 Nissan Pathfinder — a 37-year-old Buena Park resident — was cited or arrested, a watch commander told City News Service on Sunday.
The Nissan ran a red light while going westbound on Slater at Magnolia, where it broadsided a patrol unit that was going north on Magnolia through the intersection, police said.
The officer and the driver were taken to an area hospital for medical treatment and later released.
Police said the investigation was ongoing.
