A man accused of fatally shooting a 29-year-old acquaintance in Meadowbrook pleaded not guilty Friday to murder and other charges.

Stephen John Lindo, 29, of Meadowbrook was arrested Monday after he allegedly killed Michael Louis Hinden of Riverside.

Along with first-degree murder, Lindo is charged with sentence-enhancing gun and great bodily injury allegations.

Lindo was arraigned before Riverside County Superior Court Judge David Gunn, who scheduled a felony settlement conference for Oct. 28 at the Riverside Hall of Justice.

Lindo is being held in lieu of $1 million bail at the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta.

According to sheriff’s Sgt. Rick Espinoza, about noon Monday, Lindo confronted Hinden with a handgun in the 22000 block of John Street, near the Palm View RV Park & Campground.

For reasons not disclosed, Lindo allegedly opened fire, fatally wounding the victim, Espinoza said.

Witnesses called 911, and patrol deputies reached the location a short time later and found Hinden dead, Espinoza said.

Lindo was taken into custody without incident at the scene.

Lindo and Hinden knew one another, but no details were released regarding the circumstances behind the alleged attack.

Lindo has no documented prior felony convictions in Riverside County.
