The Indio Police Department announced Wednesday that it was awarded $53,000 in state grant money to fund traffic safety measures.
“These are trying times, and now more than ever, it is important that we are at the forefront of traffic safety,” a police statement said. “This funding allows us to educate and enhance the safety of all residents.”
The grant money will fund additional officer training, the creation of community education programs, and other mechanisms aimed at making the streets of Indio safer for motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists, police said.
The funding, which was distributed by the California Office of Traffic Safety, originates with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, an agency within the U.S. Department of Transportation.
