A man suspected of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in a public restroom in Perris was being held Thursday in lieu of $250,000 bail.
Matthew Lamantain Leatherman, 30, of Good Hope was arrested Wednesday night and booked into the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta on suspicion of assault with intent to commit rape and kidnapping to commit rape.
According to Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Dave Tinker, shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday, the victim, whose identity was not released, was followed by the suspect into a restroom at a business in the 1200 block of Burton Road, near Clayton Street.
Leatherman is being accused of cornering the teenage girl and sexually assaulting her before fleeing the location, Tinker said.
Deputies were called immediately afterward, and a witness provided the license plate on the suspect’s vehicle, which was tracked to a residence in the 22000 block of Hayes Street in nearby Good Hope, where Leatherman was taken into custody without incident, according to the sergeant.
