A three-vehicle crash in Northridge involving two pickup trucks left one man dead and another one in critical condition, authorities said Sunday.
The crash was reported at 7:54 p.m. Saturday in the 8500 block of North Balboa Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Brian Humphrey.
A 27-year-old man driving a 2017 Ford F-150 pickup truck northbound on Balboa Boulevard allowed the vehicle to veer into oncoming traffic, where it struck a 1999 Ford F-150 pickup truck and a Toyota Rav4, said Officer Norma Eisenman of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Section.
The occupant in the 1999 Ford pickup truck, a man in his 40s, died at the scene. The driver of the 2017 version, a 27-year-old man, was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition, Eisenman said.
The body of the deceased was trapped inside the wreckage and had to be freed, Humphrey said.
The two occupants inside the Toyota Rav4 were uninjured and remained at the crash scene, Eisenman said.
Overhead video from CBS2 showed two pickups with heavy front-end damage that appeared to have collided head-on. One had a ladder, while the other had work-related items in its box.
The investigation is still ongoing, police said.
