A woman was killed and the driver of the car she was in was arrested on suspicion of felony vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, after the car crashed into a parked Santa Ana police SUV, a police corporal said Saturday.
The two officers inside the SUV suffered some pain and were taken to an area hospital as a precaution, said Cpl. Anthony Bertagna of the Santa Ana Police Department.
The suspect was later identified as Jesus Emmanuel Perez of Santa Ana, Bertagna said.
The crash occurred at 11:20 p.m. Friday in the 1300 block of North Lowell Street, he said. The officers were clearing the scene of a trespassing call when a Honda going eastbound crashed head-on into their marked police SUV, which was parked, he said.
A woman inside the civilian vehicle was rushed to Orange County Global Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries, he said. Perez was booked at the Santa Ana Jail, Bertagna said.
The Santa Ana Police Department’s Traffic Division urged anyone with information regarding the crash to call them at 714-245-8200.
