An investigation was underway Monday into the death of a woman found unresponsive with a head wound in front of a home in Downey.

Downey police dispatchers received a report of an injured woman in front of a home in the 11600 block of Lakewood Boulevard, near Bellflower Boulevard, about 11:15 p.m. Sunday. The woman, whose name was not immediately released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

She had sustained a head wound, and her death is being investigated as a homicide, according to the Downey Police Department, which provided no other details.

A news videographer at the scene reported it appeared the woman had been shot and drove to the Lakewood Boulevard location, where she tried to get help.
