A man was taken to a hospital Friday evening with burn injuries from a Canoga Park apartment fire.

The fire broke out about 6:15 p.m. in a second-floor unit of a garden-style apartment building in the 6800 block of Variel Avenue, near the Los Angeles River, according to Nicholas Prange of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Twenty-six firefighters responded and extinguished the blaze in about 20 minutes, Prange said.

One man was treated for burn injuries by paramedics, then taken to a hospital, according to Prange.

The LAFD’s Arson/Counter-Terrorism Section is investigating the fire, which Prange said was protocol.
