The pursuit of a stolen vehicle by police Friday evening ended in Hollywood with the suspect vehicle crashing and bursting in to flames, but the driver fleeing and escaping arrest.

The crash occurred on Ardmore Avenue and Marathon Street, just off the southbound Hollywood (101) Freeway, just before 10 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The driver jumped out of the wrecked vehicle and into another vehicle, believed to be driven by a friend, and left the scene, KCAL9 reported.

Suspect descriptions were not immediately available.

It was unclear where the pursuit began.
