Authorities Friday identified a woman found dead behind a shopping mall in Pomona earlier this week, who authorities allege was raped by a man who was arrested.
Jerome Dandre Perrin, 41, was arrested about 10:30 a.m. Thursday and booked into the Pomona City Jail on suspicion of rape of an unconscious person, kidnapping with intent to commit rape, oral copulation of an unconscious person and sexual penetration with a foreign object of an unconscious person, according to the Pomona Police Department.
The woman was identified Friday by the coroner’s office as Shaday Olais, 34, who was homeless. An autopsy was pending to determine her cause of death.
Police said Olais was found dead Tuesday behind the Rio Rancho Mall, at 2001 S. Garey Ave. It was unclear when the alleged sexual assault took place. Perrin may have known the woman, according to police.
“The investigation into the death of the victim remains on-going and the results from the LA County Coroner’s Office investigation is pending,” police said in a news release.
Police said it was unknown “to what extent drugs or alcohol may have played in the victim’s death.”
Authorities said the incident appears to have been an isolated event, and that it has “no reason to believe there is a serial rapist in Pomona” as some rumors on social media have claimed.
Perrin is being held on $1 million bond, records show.
