A 54-year-old pedestrian who tried to cross a Mead Valley street while allegedly intoxicated was hit by a sedan, suffering fatal injuries, authorities said Monday.
Rudolfo Orozco of Perris was struck shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday on Clark Street, between Cajalco Road and Johnson Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officer Juan Quintero said Orozco was just north of Cajalco and attempted to walk from west to east when a northbound Honda Accord hit him.
“The front of the Honda struck the victim, resulting in major injuries,” Quintero said. “The preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian was highly intoxicated at the time.”
The driver, identified only as a woman, stopped and called 911, and Riverside County Fire Department paramedics arrived within a few minutes, rendering life-saving treatment to Orozco.
He was taken to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley, where he died four hours later.
The driver was questioned and released, Quintero said.
Anyone with information was asked to contact the CHP at 951-637-8000.
