A driver wanted for assault with a deadly weapon barricaded himself inside his vehicle Thursday evening following a pursuit that ended when his vehicle came to a stop on a grassy hillside.

The chase began about 5 p.m. at Archwood Street and Winnetka Avenue, said Officer Tony Im of the Los Angeles Police Department.

The driver led police through surface streets and, at one point, onto the Ventura (101) Freeway before exiting and making way onto Del Valle Street, a dead-end, CBS2 reported, showing footage of the scene from a helicopter.

The driver plowed through a chain-link fence before becoming stuck on a hillside near Ventura Boulevard.

Multiple police cruisers arrived on the scene, but the driver had still not gotten out of the car more than an hour later, according to CBS2. Footage streamed from CBS2 showed the driver had spray painted some windows of the car with blue paint.

An LAPD SWAT team was called to the scene, Im said.
