An attempt to pull over a driver for a traffic violation resulted in a short pursuit, a crash and an hours-long standoff with Pomona police officers surrounding a vehicle with patrol cars and an armored vehicle.
The man gave up early Monday after about three hours of crisis negotiation, and he was arrested for suspicion of felony evading, Pomona police Lt. Todd Samuels said.
The incident started about 9:20 p.m. with the attempted traffic stop, Samuels said.
There was a “short” pursuit that ended with the suspect’s car crashing into an unrelated vehicle around Third Street and White Avenue, Samuels said.
Patrol cars were behind the suspect’s vehicle and the armored police vehicle was posted in front of the suspect, the lieutenant said.
The investigation continued, he said.
