Santa Ana police Monday identified the victim of a gang-related fatal shooting.
Nick Torres, 23, of Santa Ana, was found shot in the driver’s seat of a car at 9:12 p.m. Saturday at Bear Street and MacArthur Boulevard, according to Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna, who said Torres was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A female passenger escaped injury, according to police.
Three suspects — Alfredo Ivan Pulido, 21, Leonel Diaz, 20, and Jason Garcia, 20, all of Santa Ana — were behind bars on $1 million bail and were scheduled to appear in court in the jail courtroom in Santa Ana on Tuesday, according to jail records. They have been booked on suspicion of murder and gang-related charges.
A witness told police he saw a green SUV accelerate, pull up alongside a gray BMW and open fire. The witness said he heard three to five gunshots and saw the SUV continue south on Bear Street, police said.
Torres, in the BMW, came to a stop at 1600 W. MacArthbur Blvd., police said.
Patrol officers responding to the shooting spotted a Chevy Trailblazer north on Harbor Boulevard from Warner Avenue and stopped the vehicle and detained the suspects, police said.
