Two people suffered minor injuries Wednesday when they crashed into a power pole following a car-to-car shooting on the Santa Monica (10) Freeway near downtown Los Angeles.

The shooting occurred at about 4:30 a.m. on the eastbound freeway near La Brea Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The department said two people in a white Toyota Corolla were being followed by a dark-colored SUV when the Toyota’s driver heard gunshots and saw his vehicle had been struck.

He continued driving another five miles, exiting at San Pedro Street, then crashed into a power pole at 17th Street and Griffith Avenue, the CHP said. The driver and a passenger in the car received minor injuries from the collision.

The SUV was last seen going south on Griffith Avenue, the CHP said.

The eastbound freeway was closed in the area while an investigation was conducted, but all lanes were reopened shortly after 7 a.m. No description of the suspect was released.
