Authorities Wednesday identified a motorist who was killed in a fiery crash in the Fairfax District involving his SUV and a car that was being pursued by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies.
The crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday near Fairfax Avenue and Third Street when a silver sedan being chased crashed into a blue SUV, killing the driver, according to Nicholas Prange of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The fatally injured man was identified by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office Wednesday as Jeeves Tangonan, 37, of Los Angeles.
Video from the scene showed the SUV on a sidewalk, pinned between a tree and a building, as firefighters attempted to free the driver from the wreckage.
The suspect, whose name was not immediately available, was arrested at the scene. The man was wanted on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a deputy, CBS2 reported.
