A man was in custody Monday on suspicion of fatally stabbing another man at a homeless shelter in Anaheim, police said.
Alvaro Sahagun, 57, of Anaheim, is accused in the Sunday morning death of Marcos Zavala, 36, said Anaheim police Sgt. Shane Carringer. Sahagun was booked on suspicion of murder, and was being held on $1 million bail.
Anaheim police officers went to the Salvation Army shelter in the 1400 block of South Salvation Place about 6 a.m. Sunday, and found Zavala suffering from at least one stab wound, Carringer said. The Anaheim resident died at a hospital within an hour of arriving.
Sahagun was arrested at the scene, Carringer said.
The two were staying at the shelter and “were not strangers to each other,” he said. “Detectives are not discussing a motive for the murder.”
Anyone with information on the case was urged to call Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS.
