A Riverside man was in custody Tuesday in the fatal stabbing of his mother, authorities said.
Otis James Porter, 38, was booked on suspicion of murder in the death Linda Coleman, 62, of Riverside, the Riverside Police Department reported.
Officers went to the 4200 block of Monroe Street about 4:45 p.m. Sunday on a report of a possible assault with a deadly weapon, police said.
“An adult son called 9-1-1 stating he had just stabbed his mother and accidentally stabbed himself as well,” police said in a statement.
“When officers arrived, they safely detained the son at the scene,” police said. “They went inside the residence and found an adult female victim suffering from multiple stab wounds and not breathing.”
The woman was taken to a hospital, where she died, police said.
“The preliminary investigation determined the adult son … got into an argument with his mother …” police said. “During the argument, Mr. Porter attacked his mother and stabbed her numerous times. He also stabbed himself during the altercation causing injuries to his leg.”
