A 28-year-old ex-con pleaded not guilty Friday to charges stemming from the shooting death of a woman and the wounding of her dog in Koreatown.
Police have not announced a motive for the deadly attack.
Lamont Deshon Dorsey is charged with murder for the killing of Katherine McNally, who was shot about 1:10 a.m. Jan. 9 near the intersection of Council Street and Mariposa Avenue, along with one count each of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, cruelty to an animal and possession of a firearm by a felon.
According to the criminal complaint, he has an April 2019 conviction for robbery in Los Angeles County.
Dorsey was arrested Feb. 22 in the 900 block of South Olive Street by a Los Angeles Police Department-FBI fugitive task force.
Witnesses told police McNally was walking to her vehicle with her dog when the suspect approached and shot her, LAPD Officer Rosario Cervantes said. The woman’s dog was also struck by the gunfire, but survived.
Dorsey, who has remained behind bars since his arrest, is due back in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom April 9, when a date is scheduled to be set for a hearing to determine if there is sufficient evidence to allow the case against him to proceed to trial.
