An injured hiker was rescued by helicopter Wednesday from the Hopalong Cassidy Trail in Palm Desert.

The “hiker down” call was received at about 6:45 a.m., according to the Riverside County Fire Department. Firefighters hiked to the person’s location and the found that the victim was disoriented after falling and suffering facial injuries.

A Riverside County Sheriff’s Department helicopter responded to the scene and hoisted the victim from the trail.

The hiker, whose name was not provided, was taken by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of injuries described as moderate.
