Authorities Wednesday were trying to figure out why a man was riding his bicycle in the dark on the eastbound Pomona (60) Freeway in Industry during the last minutes of his life when he was struck by several vehicles and killed.

The man was riding near the center divider, just west of Peck Road, when he was hit by the vehicles at about 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

All of the drivers of the death vehicles remained at the scene and no other injuries were reported, the CHP reported.

All but the No. 5 lane of the freeway were closed as authorities investigated the deadly scene.

No other details – including a motive for the dead man to ride a bicycle on a freeway – were immediately available. Nor was any information available about the victim or the drivers’ identities.
