A man was taken into custody Monday after barricading himself in an apartment building in Montebello for more than 11 hours.
Montebello Police Department officers were called to the apartment complex in the 1300 block of South Greenwood Avenue at about 8 a.m. on reports of a domestic disturbance, CBS2 reported.
The man refused to come out of his apartment when responding officers attempted to make contact with him.
Officers evacuated all other units in the apartment complex and closed South Greenwood Avenue between Washington Boulevard and Oakwood Street as they attempted to persuade the man to surrender.
A SWAT team was called to the scene and deployed tear gas into the man’s apartment at about 7 p.m., according to Montebello police. He surrendered to police soon after and was taken into custody.
The man’s name was not released.
Residents were allowed back into their apartments and South Greenwood Avenue was reopened at about 8:45 p.m.
