A 30-year-old man free on bail in an assault with a deadly weapon case earlier this month was arrested on suspicion of killing an elderly man Monday and assaulting another man.

David Steven Abbott of Anaheim was accused of attacking a 60-year-old man about noon in the 1300 block of Devonshire Road. The victim suffered minor injuries and was not hospitalized, said Anaheim police Sgt. Shane Carringer.

About 20 minutes later near Falmouth and Catalpa avenues, Abbot allegedly attacked 70-year-old Rahmatolah “Davey” Yaghoubi, who died after being taken to a hospital for treatment, Carringer said.

Abbot was booked into the Anaheim jail in connection with the attacks and Yaghoubi’s death. Bail was set at $2 million but Carringer said detectives were seeking a bail enhancement.

On May 20, Abbot was released from jail after posting $100,000 bail stemming from a May 15 assault with a deadly weapon case.

Detectives were asking anyone who may have had contact with Abbott, or been a victim of a similar assault to contact homicide detectives at 714-321-3669 or Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855-TIPOCCS.
