Police were trying to figure out Tuesday why a hidden woman who apparently was lying under a pile of blankets in a parking stall was fatally struck by a vehicle in a parking lot in Long Beach.

The fatal tragedy happened in a business parking lot Monday in the 2500 block of Long Beach Boulevard, Long Beach police reported.

The woman was run over by a 2010 Scion XB driven by a 27-year-old Los Angeles man. The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with police, the LBPD reported.

The woman died at the scene. While it’s possible the victim was homeless and seeking shelter under the blankets, officials could not confirm that she was homeless. Her name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Anyone with information on this crash was asked to call LBPD detectives at 562-570-7355. Tipsters can also call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
