A 25-year-old man who was wanted for allegedly carjacking a woman at a Banning gas station was arrested and remained jailed Saturday on $60,000 bail.
Joseph Schlosser was arrested on Friday in the 2200 block of West Ramsey Street, according to the Banning Police Department.
He was accused of carjacking a woman who stopped to refuel about 12:45 a.m. on May 25 at a gas station in the 800 block of East Ramsey Street.
After the woman exited her vehicle — which was left unlocked and running — she entered the gas station and noticed a man had climbed into her vehicle, police said.
The woman ran out of the business and attempted to confront the man, but when she tried opening the vehicle’s door it was locked.
“As she attempted to open the door, the suspect drove out of the station parking-lot, knocking the victim to the ground and striking the victim with vehicle. The victim sustained minor injuries,” police said in a news release.
The vehicle was later recovered and returned to the victim.
Schlosser was booked into jail on suspicion of carjacking, possessing metal knuckles and several other crimes.
