A man was taken into custody Sunday after a SWAT team and crisis negotiators were called to a Garden Grove apartment unit that he refused to leave after allegedly sexually assaulting his live-in girlfriend.
James Lehman, 33, was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and booked into the Orange County Jail, Garden Grove police Sgt. Luis Payan said.
Officers were dispatched about 1:35 a.m. to an apartment building in the 7700 block of Chapman Avenue, where a woman reported to police that she had been sexually assaulted by her boyfriend.
“The victim reported that the suspect was still inside of the apartment. Officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, but he refused to come out,” the sergeant said. “SWAT and crisis negotiators were called out to assist. The suspect ultimately surrendered after negotiators got him to comply with officers.”
Lehman’s girlfriend was treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, Payan said.
