A sex assault suspect was in custody Monday after a tense time with a SWAT team and crisis negotiators who were called to a Garden Grove apartment that the suspect refused to leave after allegedly attacking his live-in girlfriend.
James Lehman, 33, was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and booked into the Orange County Jail, Garden Grove police Sgt. Luis Payan said.

Officers were dispatched about 1:35 a.m. Sunday to an apartment building in the 7700 block of Chapman Avenue, where a woman reported to police that she had been sexually assaulted by her boyfriend.
“The victim reported that the suspect was still inside of the apartment. Officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, but he refused to come out,” the sergeant said. “SWAT and crisis negotiators were called out to assist. The suspect ultimately surrendered after negotiators got him to comply with officers.”
Lehman’s girlfriend was treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, Payan said.
