The Imperial Irrigation District Thursday said fraudsters have been reportedly going door-to-door claiming to work with the district and attempting to sell solar equipment.
The individuals are supposedly requesting to see customer bills and electrical equipment in order to make sales.
“Customers are advised that IID has no affiliation or working arrangements with door-to-door vendors or telemarketers selling solar systems,” according to an IID statement.
This isn’t the first time IID customers have been targets of fraudulent activity.
In February, the district reported fraudsters were calling and emailing IID electric customers, demanding they pay money immediately or risk having their power shut off.
IID officials warned its customers that callers were masquerading as district employees and demanding immediate payment or other financial information. Officials made a similar announcement in December.
Any customer contacted by anyone who claims to represent the district was urged to call the IID customer call center at 800-303-7756 or 760-335-3640, Monday through Friday.
The utility’s energy service area covers 6,471 square miles, including parts of Riverside and San Diego counties, and all of Imperial County.
In the Coachella Valley, IID’s customer service center is located at 81-600 Avenue 58 in La Quinta.
Customers can also email the district at firstname.lastname@example.org.
