A pedestrian was fatally struck Thursday when he attempted to cross a road in Canyon Lake.
The fatality happened at 2:40 a.m. on Railroad Canyon Road near Canyon Lake Drive, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Sgt. Brad Foster said that the victim, whose identity was not immediately released, was walking along the roadway and tried to cross it “outside of a marked crosswalk,” and was hit by an oncoming car.
The driver stopped and called 911.
Paramedics arrived within a few minutes and pronounced the victim dead at the scene, Foster said.
The motorist, whose identity also was not disclosed, was not injured and was released following questioning by patrol deputies.
“Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the collision,” the sergeant said.
Anyone with information was asked to contact the sheriff’s Canyon Lake station at 951-245-3000.
