A passenger was in custody Saturday after opening a door and jumping out of a taxiing airplane at Los Angeles International Airport.
The man opened a service door and tumbled to the ground from the United Express flight to Salt Lake City as it was pulling away from a gate at about 7:10 p.m. Friday, according to broadcast reports.
He allegedly tried to open a door several times before jumping from the plane.
Airport police arrived at the scene and took the man into custody with unknown injuries. His name was not released, and authorities did not say if they knew of a motive for the man’s actions.
The incident marks the second security breach at LAX in two days. A man was taken into custody at LAX Thursday after driving his car through an anti-terrorist security fence and onto a runway, leading police on a brief pursuit.
In the case of the passenger jumping from the plane, no one else was injured in the incident and the plane taxied back to its gate.
Airport police and the FBI were investigating the matter as a possible hijacking attempt. No further details were released.
