A woman was struck and killed Monday by an SUV on the Hollywood (101) Freeway near the Hollywood Bowl and the motorist driving that vehicle was subsequently arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, authorities said.
The crash was reported at 4:46 a.m. on the southbound freeway at Pilgrimage Bridge, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Authorities said the woman, who was in her 40s, was struck by a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The motorist driving that vehicle, 22-year-old Adrian Castroramos of Los Angeles, was contacted at the scene by CHP officers and “was determined to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision,” the CHP said.
He suffered minor cuts to his hands as a result of the crash.
The fatal crash was proceeded by an earlier three-vehicle crash in which one of the vehicles remained in the number three lane of the southbound freeway and the woman exited her vehicle to assess its damage.
The CHP issued a Sigalert at 5:03 a.m. shutting down all southbound lanes just north of the bridge. All lanes were reopened as of 9:40 a.m.
The agency’s Central Los Angeles area office urged anyone with information about the crash to call them at 213-744-2331.
