A suspected DUI driver behind the wheel of a van that caused a fatal crash with a motorcyclist has been cited but not arrested, authorities said Sunday.
The nature of the citation was not immediately known, but could have been for an unsafe lane change, according to a Garden Grove Police Department watch commander, who said the crash was still under investigation.
The fatal accident took place at the intersection of Haster Street and Lampson Avenue at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Officer D. Mihalik said.
Police responded and found the motorcycle rider unresponsive. Orange County Fire Authority paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene, Mihalik said. There was no immediate description of the rider.
A preliminary investigation determined that the van turned unsafely in front of the motorcyclist, causing the collision, Mihalik said.
Alcohol and/or drugs were believed to be a factor in the collision, according to the officer.
The Garden Grove Police Department urged anyone with information regarding the crash to call them at 714-741-5704.
