A woman was killed and another seriously wounded in a car-to-car shooting in Hemet, and authorities Monday were seeking witnesses to the attack.

The shooting happened about 9:30 p.m. Sunday in the 400 block of North Elk Street, near Devonshire Avenue, according to Hemet Police Department Lt. Nathan Miller.

The victims were sitting in a sedan when a dark-colored vehicle pulled alongside them, he said.

“Several shots were fired at the two women, and then the dark-colored vehicle sped away,” Miller said.

Patrol officers who were headed to another call heard the gunfire and went to the location, according to the lieutenant.

He said one of the victims died at the scene, while the other was taken to a hospital, where she remains in critical condition. Their names were withheld.

“Several bullet casings were found on the ground, but the weapon used has not yet been located,” Miller said. “While detectives have not yet determined a motive, investigators do not believe the shooting is random.”

No license plate on the vehicle from which the gunshots originated was available, nor was there any description of the occupants.

Anyone with information was asked to call detectives at 951-765-2396.
