A shooting suspect was shot and killed during a chase Friday with Buena Park police that ended in front of the Buena Park Elementary School District offices.

A patrolling Buena Park Police Department officer saw the suspect sitting in his car and shooting a firearm at a school bus just before 2 p.m. in the area of Orangethorpe Avenue and Western Avenue, according to the department’s Sgt. Chad Weaver.

The suspect fled the scene when the officer attempted to stop his vehicle. He led police on a pursuit on streets throughout Buena Park before pulling into the Buena Park School District parking lot at 6885 Orangethorpe Ave., near Nott Avenue.

“An officer-involved shooting occurred and two police officers fired their weapons,” Weaver said. It was not immediately known what prompted the officers to fire.

The suspect was struck by gunfire and died of his wounds at the scene. His name was not immediately released.

No officers were injured in the shooting.

Investigators from the Orange County District Attorney’s Office are conducting an investigation into the shooting, Weaver said.
