A man whose remains were located on a hillside north of Moreno Valley was the victim of a homicide, though his identity remains a mystery, authorities said Wednesday.
The body was located by passers-by about noon on Saturday in the 7400 block of Reche Canyon Road, near the county line with San Bernardino County, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Sgt. Ben Ramirez said the death appeared suspicious, and Central Homicide Unit detectives sealed off the area to collect evidence, leaving the remains at the site until Sunday, when they were taken to the coroner’s office.
An autopsy was completed Tuesday, and “due to trauma found on the victim, this case will be investigated as a homicide,” Ramirez said.
Ramirez did not disclose the type of injuries inflicted on the victim, whose age and race were unknown. The only identifiable trait was the man’s hair — medium-length black, according to Ramirez.
Anyone with information related to the case was asked to call detectives at 951-955-2777.
