A man allegedly armed with a gun was shot and wounded Friday by Long Beach police, authorities said.

The shooting occurred about 8:30 a.m. near Los Coyotes Diagonal and Woodruff Avenue, the Long Beach Police Department reported.

Officers went to the neighborhood on a report that a person was waving a knife. When they arrived on scene they saw a man in a parked vehicle who was holding a gun, and the officer-involved shooting occurred, police said.

The wounded man was hospitalized, and was expected to survive. His name was not immediately available for release. No officers were injured.
