A homeless man was fatally struck by a sedan Saturday in the Chesterfield Square area of South Los Angeles and the driver fled the scene.
The victim was identified as 52-year-old Alvaro Quinones, according to the coroner’s office.
Quinones was crossing Western Avenue just north of 65th Street about 5 a.m. when he was struck by a northbound sedan and the driver failed to stop and render aid as required by law, according to a Los Angeles Police Department statement.

While the victim was lying in the roadway, he was struck by a second northbound vehicle and became lodged underneath, police said. That driver stopped immediately and attempted to aid him.
Quinones was pronounced dead at the scene.
The hit-and-run vehicle was described as a white, early model, medium-sized sedan with tinted windows, police said. There was no description of the driver.
Anyone with information about the crash was asked to call the South Traffic Division at 323-421-2500 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday or, after hours, call the watch commander, at 323-421-2570.
A reward of up to $50,000 is available to people who provide information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of a hit-and- run driver or civil resolution under a Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund created by the City Council.
