A Long Beach man allegedly driving while impaired was arrested in the fatal injury of a pedestrian, police said Wednesday.
Tyrone Tate, 68, was taken into custody following the crash that occurred at about 5:50 p.m. Tuesday on Pacific Avenue near 12th Street, the Long Beach Police Department reported.
Tate was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence and carrying a concealed firearm, and bail was set at $100,000, police said.
The 62-year-old woman who was injured later died at a hospital. Her name was withheld, pending notification of her relatives.
According to police, Tate was driving a 2016 Nissan Sentra north on Pacific Avenue when he hit the woman, who was trying to cross Pacific Avenue outside of a marked crosswalk.
