A Murrieta man accused of killing his father and fleeing to Mexico before being arrested while attempting to re-enter the country remained jailed without bail Saturday after being charged with murder.

Carlos Palmerin, 32, was taken into custody Monday at the San Ysidro Border Crossing.

The day prior, officers discovered a vehicle owned by his father, 54-year-old Ricardo Palmerin, abandoned with the keys still in the ignition and a flat tire on Jefferson Avenue near Fig Street, according to the Murrieta Police Department.

When officers responded to Ricardo Palmerin’s home on Ivy Street they found him dead, along with signs of a struggle, police said. While investigators were at the home, a neighbor came by and informed them that his truck had just been stolen by Carlos.

Police said Carlos Palmerin fled to Mexico in the stolen truck but was arrested hours later trying to re-enter the country.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on murder and vehicle theft charges on Jan. 3 at the Southwest Justice Center in Murrieta.
